Compact Disc

MP3 Playback
A compressed audio format that is popular for downloading across the internet. Files may be recorded on CD-R or CD-RW media for playback in compatible DVD players, audio CD players, and CD-ROM drives. Files are usually named as "*.mp3". Sound quality varies as a function of the recording/encoding bit rate. For a high fidelity home audio system, its recommended to use MP3s encoded at no less than 256 kbps data rate. Anything less would mean too much compression was used at the cost of sound fidelity. See also WMA files compatibility with DVD and CD players.


WMA files compatibility with DVD and CD players.
Windows Media Audio (WMA) is a proprietary compressed audio file format developed by Microsoft. It was initially a competitor to the MP3 format, but with the introduction of Apple's iTunes Music Store, it has positioned itself as a competitor to the Advanced Audio Coding format used by Apple. It is part of the Windows Media framework.

A WMA file is almost always encapsulated in an Advanced Systems Format (ASF) file. The resulting file may have the filename suffix"wma" or "asf" with the "wma" suffix being used only if the file is strictly audio. The ASF file format specifies how metadata about the file is to be encoded, akin to the ID3 tags used by MP3 files.

Files in this format are mainly played using Windows Media Player, Winamp (with certain limitations, DSP plugin support and DirectSound output is disabled using the default WMA plugin) and many other alternative media players.

The most current version of the format is Windows Media Audio 10 which includes specific codecs for lossless, multi-channel surround sound and voice encoding in addition to the main lossy codec. Both constant and variable bit rate encoding are supported.

Denon DVD players can play CDR's or CDRW's with WMA and MP3 files burnt on them as long as they have been burnt using a slow speed, recommended x4 speed.


Radio Data System
Radio Data System for VHF/FM broadcasting.

The developers aimed at making radio receivers very user-friendly. Listeners should be able to see the programme service name (PS) on an eight character alpha-numerical display and the transmitter frequency information, as displayed on non-RDS radios, is then only used in the background by an RDS radio. The tuner is able to choose the transmitter frequency, among a number of alternatives, that gives the best quality reception.

Travel information with RDS is currently possible using the Travel Programme (TP) and Travel Announcement (TA) flags.

Once a radio is tuned to a programme service broadcast within a network, using the RDS feature Enhanced Other Networks (EON), additional data about other programmes from the same broadcaster will be received. This enables the listener, according to their choice, to have the radio operating in an automatic switch-mode for travel information or a preferred Programme Type (PTY, e.g. News).

Another feature of RDS is accurate Clock-Time, displaying the time/date when selected.



Radio Text
RDS tuners with Radiotext can receive short messages which might include information about the presenter, station or programme you are listening to. For example, BBC Radio 1's RadioTEXT usually gives information about the presenter and programme, whereas Classic FM gives information which includes a web address for the station. The information will scroll across the display on a home tune

High-quality sound design brushed up circuit configuration and housing design

Employs technology carefully selected by DENON to play Blu-ray disc lossless audio, high-resolution sound sources via a network, and other sound sources at high quality. Utilizes the latest 32-bit processing DSP and 192 kHz/24-bit supporting D/A converter in the digital audio circuit. Equipped with DENON original high sound quality technology, such as minimum signal path design for the analog circuit to thoroughly simplify and straighten the signal paths, and a Direct Mechanical Ground Construction to prevent the effects of vibration by firmly mounting the power transformers and radiator on the rigid bottom chassis to mitigate the negative impact on sound quality where these components have as sources of vibration. The full discrete power amplifier circuit configuration parts have been brushed up to ensure the same power and same response for all channels. This provides a sound suitable for the age of high image and sound quality home theaters and high-resolution sound sources.

Audyssey MultEQ XT automatically optimizes the acoustical characteristics

Equipped with Audyssey MultiEQ XT sound field calibration technology for optimizing the acoustical problems caused by the different furniture, flooring materials, and other objects in the home. When the theater system is installed the included microphone is used to measure where the speakers are and their size, distance, and sound volume and this information is used to automatically set the settings. Audyssey MultiEQ XT can accurately measure and analyze a maximum of 8 locations to remove the causes of sound quality deterioration, such as room acoustic echoes to provide the optimum sound experience for everyone viewing the movie even when many people are in the living room.

The AVR-1713 internal construction has been redesigned to reduce the depth to 53 mm and the height to 11 mm to improve the ability to install it in the latest TV racks. The external design has also been redone. This new product design is modern and smart and expresses DENON’s audio component objective of achieving both refinement and power. This is a simple but powerful DENON new-generation AV component design.

Easy-to-use interface

Equipped with a Setup Assistant function that provides guidance on the television screen from connection to initial setup and a Quick Select function that allows up to 4 frequently used setups to be recorded and recalled with one touch. Features a Graphical User Interface (GUI) with Japanese language support that can be overlay displayed on HDMI video. Featuring a low diffraction IsoPower baffle, dual FreeFlow flared ports, and Straight-Line Signal Path, rest assured you'll have good, clear sound. Plus both the dual 3-inch tweeters and the 10-inch woofer are backed by high-temperature voice coils. And the tweeters have the added advantage of protection circuitry that keeps the tweeter intact under adverse conditions—such as when your aunt Martha belts out "Nothing Compares 2 U."

Cut It Out (The Distortion, That Is)

The RM10 monitor is equipped with left and right high-frequency trim controls that control the tweeters in the left and right side panels of each RM10 speaker. The trim controls enable you to compensate for various room conditions and vocal styles: adjust the trim controls so that the vocals are loud enough to be intelligible without being so loud as to be harsh or distorted.
